Instituto Superior Técnico (Tecnico Lisboa) has cooperated with the Foundation of Portuguese Universities (FUP) since the early evaluation initiatives for higher education programmes carried out in the 1990s, as well as with some Portuguese Professional Associations.
Subsequently, and when the new Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES) started its activity, Tecnico Lisboa submitted for accreditation all its study cycles (SC), and obtained positive results (100% of accredited courses).
Then a new cycle began (2011-2016), during which the Agency has developed more comprehensive evaluation processes of the HEIs and its SC according to a self-evaluation guide (PDF, 191KB). This phase was organized by thematic evaluation cycles and includes the validation of institutional quality assurance systems, as the A3ES undertook to adopt simplified accreditation procedures for HEIs as a result of that validation process. In that regard, Tecnico Lisboa aimed to participate in an experimental audit/certification project of its quality management system (SIQuIST), which was accredited for a period of 6 years (2013-2019).

Meanwhile, Tecnico Lisboa has carried out other quality recognition initiatives for its programmes: the Intergrated MSc programme in Architecture was approved by the European Commission , and the Portuguese Professional Engineering Association (OE) awarded the EUR-ACE Quality Seal certification to the engineering programmes listed below.
