On 2 April, THE released its University Impact Rankings, for the first time, which shows how the global higher education sector is working towards 17 of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and includes the period 1 January-31 December 2017.

The University of Lisbon, however, is not represented in any of the ranking’s dimensions.

Last Tuesday, 17^th July, the ARWU (Academic Ranking of World Universities) ranking by subject was updated.

This last edition confirms that the best Portuguese rank is achieved in the area of Maritime Engineering, in which the University of Lisbon (UL) reaches the fourth place at world level (down one position regarding the previous year), as a result of the work developed by the Naval Engineering of the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon holds also the highest national score in civil engineering, ranked 45^th world best in the Shanghai Ranking.
